Buddha

While visiting a company today I came across this fantastic hand-carved wooden Buddha almost as big a me. In fact there are lots of beautiful wooden sculptures to be found everywhere, often abstractions in twisted forms with interesting grain and colours in the wood.

A British woman was deported from Sri Lanka because 'Authorities' considered her Buddha tattoo disrespectful to Buddha. The Guardian news article above mentions other examples that can be considered disrespectful including having your photo taken with a Buddha. I like Buddhism mainly because it is more a life philosophy and seems less fanatical than many religions. I doubt that Buddha would have taken offence had I hugged him. I would quite like a hug myself. Unfortunately fascist control freaks use religions to control others. Get a life, I say...
