Insects

There is certainly plenty of interesting wildlife underfoot especially off the beaten track. You have to watch where you tread though as apparently there are poisonous snakes. I have yet to encounter a snake but I have seen a variety of lizards some quite large, maybe up to a foot in length. Unfortuneatly they move so quickly it will be pure luck if I ever capture one with my camera. There are large black beetle-like grasshoppers that make a similar sound to crickets but much, much louder and then there is an extraordinary insect that creates a sound like an electric toothbrush. It can be very loud almost deafening at times and hard to believe that such noise could be made by insects alone.
