Snake encounter

Wow, was I surprised to see this enormous snake this morning after emerging from a short but fruitless walk through the wilderness onto the road. It must have been at least 1.5-2 meters long with a diameter of 6-7cm and looked fairly lethal as it slinked away. I was lucky to capture it as the third set of Duracell batteries in my camera failed in as many days. I frantically rummaged through my bag trying to find the last set of batteries as the snake headed for the undergrowth on the other side of the road. The very cheap 'Duracell" batteries supposedly good until 2017 could be fakes. I was too late to put myself in the photo to give some idea of scale but maybe that was not such a good idea anyway.


Update:

This would appear to be a 'Taiwanese beauty rat snake', which can be kept as a pet so presumably it is fairly harmless. That said, it can grow up to 3 meters in length which sounds fairly scary to me.
