Windmill
Palm trees and a windmill, an unusual juxtaposition. In a country known for typhoons maybe windmills are not such a bad idea. This windmill I actually first came across on Google street view and then followed it up by driving to it (my first drive in Taiwan). I was surprised to find it located in a very tranquil spot close to Dacun local railway station. The station was easy to navigate with some signs in English and they even had a ticket counter so you could ask about the service. Almost a thing of the past in small towns in 'modern' Europe. At the very least I could say 'Taichung' and be reasonably sure of a valid ticket. A lot easier than trying to program a European ticket automat. The fare to Taichung (about 25km) was a little over NT40$ which is about 2€. As for my first short drive - Well, it was certainly safer in the car than trying to cross a zebra crossing on foot and that is no exaggeration. However that said even driving a car needs 100% concentration as scooters come at you from every direction and riders ride up the inside without warning.
